Skydiggers Wrap Up 25th Anniversary Campaign with New Christmas EP, Offer Full Stream on Exclaim.ca

Toronto roots lifers Skydiggers have been celebrating their 25th anniversary with a string of releases in 2013, and now they've shared the fourth and final collection of the campaign. The holiday-themed EP Angels is out today (November 19) and is available stream stream in full on Exclaim.ca.

For the most part, the band avoid the usual Christmas carols, instead favouring new seasonal tunes by the likes of the Pretenders, John Prince, and Charlie Angus and Andrew Cash. That being said, the collection include the classic "Good King Wenceslas" and the lesser-known traditional tune "Poor Little Jesus."

This isn't your average celebratory Christmas album, since it mostly finds the band in slightly downcast form, with slow-moving acoustic arrangements and sensitive vocal harmonies. The Angus/Cash-penned "Church Bells Ringing" is slightly more upbeat, but this is mostly a low-key affair. Stream it at the bottom of this page.

A portion of the proceedings from this EP will be donated to the non-profit Unison Benevolent Fund, which offers aid to Canadian musicians in need of help as a result of various professional or personal problems. You can purchase the record here.

Skydiggers have upcoming shows in Wakefield and Toronto. See the schedule below.

Angels follows the band's recent live album, covers collection and female-fronted re-imagining.
