Sixtyeights Wonderful In The Afternoon

Brotherly love isn’t always a hefty motivator when it comes to writing sticky-sweet pop songs, but it seems to work for Liam and Carlin Nicholson. As songwriters for the Toronto-based combo the Sixtyeights, the sibling team sure works well together crafting retro-hyper power pop. You’d expect the Nicholsons to be an impressive duo the way they present themselves, but they’re backed by Leon Patterson and Graydon James, to make a proper quartet. The chemistry that runs through Wonderful In The Afternoon is one based heavily on the tag team vocals that deliver the cheery melodies. They certainly have talent playing their instruments, but a lot of the appeal with this band is in how the Nicholsons back each other’s singing. (Gibraltar)
