Sinkane Signs to DFA for 'Mars,' Gets Twin Shadow, Yeasayer's Ira Wolf Tuton to Guest

New York-based musician Sinkane (aka Ahmad Gallab) has performed with some powerful indie rock players in the past, including Of Montreal, Yeasayer and Caribou, but the multi-instrumentalist will showcase his own songs on his upcoming solo LP, Mars, which DFA Records will deliver October 23.

According to a press release, the eight-song effort is "dense with deep, polyrhythmic grooves," and references both '70s soul cuts and the music of Gallab's native Sudan. While Sinkane is said to lay down at least four instruments on each track, he did get a little help on Mars from some friends. The set is said to feature some six-string soloing from Twin Shadow's George Lewis Jr., as well as contributions form Yeasayer's Ira Wolf Tuton, Shai Hulud's Oliver Chapoy and saxophonist/flautist stutzmcgee, among others.

Despite that October launch date, you can sample two new Mars cuts, the North African funk number "Jeeper Creeper" and the wah-wah-guitar-and-falsetto-imbued opener "Runnin'," down below.

Sinkane is expected to announce tour dates sometime soon.

Mars:

1. Runnin'
2. Jeeper Creeper
3. Lady C'mon
4. Making Time
5. Warm Spell
6. Love Sick
7. Mars
8. Caparundi
