Sigur Rós

"Ekki Múkk"

Yesterday (March 25), Icelandic post-rock faves Sigur Rós announced their new album Valtari arrives on May 28, but the band are filling the two-month gap by premiering new track "Ekki Múkk."

True to vocalist Jónsi's claim that they hadn't "made a dance record," the seven-plus-minute number plays delicately with the singer's sweetly singing over a bed of string swells, a choir and ambient electro squeaks before the song strips itself down to some minimalist piano plunks. It's not quite a "steamroller" (the literal English translation of valtari), but it's stunning nonetheless.
