Shinichi Osawa

"Star Guitar (Feat. Au Revoir Simone)"

BY Cam LindsayPublished Sep 27, 2007

Japanese DJ/producer Shinichi Osawa has been a on the international scene since 1991 with a number of albums, remixes and production credits under both his name and his better known moniker Mondo Grosso. Dude never really sticks to genres, so it’s not very surprising to find him joining the ranks of the latest electro house hitmakers in Digitalism, Boys Noize and Christopher & Raphael Just — all of whom he’s remixed over the last year. His new solo album, The One, lines up a few cool collaborations with Princess Superstar, Freeform Five and this lead/stand out track featuring the lovely lasses in Au Revoir Simone. Who knew the Chemical Brothers were such easy artists to cover? Osawa breaks out his "guitarmy” for a frisky version of Tom’n’Ed’s 2002 hit, pronouncing the guitars a little more with a defined indie rockin’ strum and stripping it of the gurgling trance-y synths. Not straying too far from the Brotherly rhythm, he instils the beats with some hyperactive menace that makes you feel like your living in fast-forward compared to the sluggish original.
