The Sheepdogs Announce Patrick Carney-produced New Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 12, 2012

Saskatoon boogie unit the Sheepdogs' career went into overdrive last year when they won a contest that put them on the cover of Rolling Stone. While the band soon inked up with Atlantic Records/Warner Music Canada to reissue their ultimately Juno-winning 2010 LP Learn & Burn and deliver the quickie Five Easy Pieces, the group will put out their proper major label debut this fall. A self-titled effort is set to drop September 4.

A tracklisting has yet to arrive, but a press release explains that the group's next effort was produced this past January with the Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney and Austin Scaggs. The recording sessions are apparently varied, but Carney is said to have helped the group fofcus on making "a distinctive collection of brilliantly unabashed rock'n'roll."

"I think Patrick has a good sense of no bullshit," Sheepdogs vocalist Ewan Currie said in a statement of the producer/percussionist. "A lot of making rock'n'roll is about cutting the fat and being a good filter. In the studio, he helped us refine the songs and found the best representation of each one possible. Plus, we wanted to be able to incorporate all different styles and I think our album runs the gamut."

If you're hoping for a sneak peek of The Sheepdogs, you can stream roadhouse blues stomper "The Way It Is" now over at Rolling Stone. "Nothing packs a punch like a two-note riff," Currie said of the song. "It's lean and mean." A music video for the song is said to arrive shortly.
