In addition to offering up retro pop originals of their own, She & Him have performed a number of covers of classic songs, including tracks by the Beatles ("I Should Have Known Better") and the Smiths ("Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want"). For their latest cover, the duo of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward appeared on Conan and performed their own version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins's beloved "I Put a Spell on You."
They played without a backup band, with Deschanel's silky vocals backed by only Ward's echoing electric guitar. The singer is at her most fiery, at times raising her girlish coo to a strained yell. Listen and watch below.
She & Him previously released their version of "I Put a Spell on You" on the Starbucks Valentine's Day compilation Sweetheart.
UPDATE: Along with "I Put a Spell on You," She & Him did a rendition of the yuletide classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" with Conan himself lending a hand. Check it out in the second vid below.
