Sharon Van Etten

"Your Love Is Killing Me"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 14, 2014

Though having just served up the teeth-baring vampire video for "Every Time the Sun Comes Up" yesterday (May 13), Sharon Van Etten is putting the shine on yet another cut from her upcoming Are We There LP. This time, we're treated to the organ-dappled, damaged torch track "Your Love Is Killing Me."

An early, muted drum sound ushers us into the piece, with a rippling organ tone underscoring Van Etten's pleas for vivisection just to forget the pain caused by the love of another ("cut my tongue so I can't talk to you / burn my skin so I can't feel you"). Despite the progression into a head-swimming arrangement of crashed cymbals, cloud-crossing strums and more, the songwriter tries to collect herself as soberly as possible as she tries to make a change in herself.

The relatable heart wrecker can be streamed below, while Van Etten's LP is due out May 27 through Jagjaguwar.
