Spencer Seim is best known as the guitar genius behind Hella’s impossibly technical prog experiments, and those who dig deeper know him as the drummer for 8-bit Nintendo themes cover band the Advantage. Unhappy to merely push the envelope with those two bands, Seim has emerged with sBACH, a solo project that surpasses much of what he’s done. In its half-hour length, the 13 untitled tracks run through shuffling guitar-math and 8-bit wizard anthems as if Seim’s projects were always one and the same. It’s all there, from heady noise trips to technical wizardry. A definite highlight in an already impressive career, sBACH needs to be heard. (Suicide Squeeze)
