Sambassadeur Migration

Published Jan 22, 2008
Despite their name coming from a Serge Gainsbourg song, Gothenburgs Sambassadeur are nothing like their sexually explicit muse. However, this four-piece put as much effort into their lush orchestral pop arrangements as the late Parisian, though with a lot more of that dainty, timid disposition weve come to expect from Swedish music. Migration is their second full-length and it finds Sambassadeur stressing the vocals of Anna Persson and mostly leaving behind the boy/girl exchange of their debut. Though that could be a disappointment for some, Perssons wistful intonation will be just right for fans of comparable acts like Future Bible Heroes and Portastatic, who share the same penchant for mini-orchestras and lovelorn prose. On Migration, Sambassadeur dont reinvent the wheel but their playful arrangements, careful melodies and a track called "Final Say, which recruits some deep bass lines and flapping synths as a paean to New Order, mark a significant second effort and show theres even more room to grow.
