Saltland 'I Thought It Was Us but It Was All of Us' (album stream)
Published May 06, 2013Rebecca Foon has made music with Esmerine, Thee Silver Mt. Zion and Set Fire to Flames, but is now set to release the debut album of her latest project Saltland. Titled I Thought It Was Us but It Was All of Us, the record is out on May 14, but you can stream it right now.
Taking the lead on vocals and cello herself, Foon is joined by Jamie Thompson (Island, the Unicorns) on percussion and programming.
The album was engineered with the help of Mark Lawson at Foon's apartment studio, and the duo have also recruited an impressive array of guests, including Colin Stetson, Arcade Fire's Sarah Neufeld and Richard Reed Perry, Laurel Sprengelmeyer (Little Scream), Mishka Stein (Patrick Watson), and more.
According to a press release, Foon drew inspiration for the songs from "childhood innocence lost, tender utopic reveries and downcast dystopic horizons, and the search for soft, stoic strength in a darkening, devolving world."
Refusing to be pigeonholed, the end result is a captivating combination of genres from dream pop to chamber music to ambient and shoegaze.
I Thought It Was Us but It Was All of Us is out on May 14 via Constellation Records. Give it a listen below.
