Sacha Baron Cohen Says 'Borat' Led to Pamela Anderson's Divorce from Kid Rock

Sacha Baron Cohen's comedies have always had real-world consequences. Most recently, his show Who Is America? resulted in massive lawsuits and, possibly, the discovery of a sinister pedophile ring. The Cohen effect has been going on for a long time, however. In fact, his Borat movie resulted in the end of Pamela Anderson's marriage to Kid Rock.

Cohen's 2006 comedy Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan included a scene where his moustachioed protagonist kidnapped Pam Anderson during a meet-and-greet. Although Anderson was in on the gag, Kid Rock was not down.

Speaking on The Last Laugh podcast, Cohen said that Anderson was "amazingly brave" for participating, but added that she "lost two things" during filming: "One, she lost a tiny bit of bone from her jaw, and secondly, she lost a husband."

Apparently, Anderson and Mr. Rock got into an argument after a preview screening of the film. Baron Cohen told The Last Laugh he texted Anderson after that screening. "'How did it go? What did he think?'" Cohen asked Anderson about her experience viewing Borat with Kid Rock. She said the two were getting a divorce. When asked why, she said, "The movie."

"And I thought it was a joke, but then a few weeks later, they got divorced and they put as a reason for divorce, Borat," Cohen said. "I think they were a fantastic couple, so it's a shame. Much better than Julian Assange or whoever she dated later on."
