Ross The Boss

New Metal Leader

BY Keith CarmanPublished Jan 20, 2009

Known best as an original member of New York punks the Dictators and founder of power metal beasts Manowar, Ross the Boss finally takes a few moments to unleash some of the guitar virtuosity that ensured the aforementioned acts became pinnacles of their respective genres on his own terms. Entrenched in the same though, there is a touch of nostalgic hilarity that permeates the majority of New Metal Leader. Riding the line between Saxon-esque heavy metal and cock rock thanks to soaring vocals intertwining with impressively thick and aggressive musicianship, the album's 11 tracks wind up feeling as though Ross the Boss is finally getting around to finally releasing something that was sitting in a vault, as opposed to creating anew. Thankfully, because of its - and his - sincerity and forthright pride, New Metal Leader perfectly rides the line between Euro power metal and old school Samson, as opposed to struggling to attain the same.
