Many of the details on the Roots and Elvis Costello's impending collaborative LP have yet to be revealed, but at least we now know when to expect the set. Roots drummer Questlove recently revealed the LP is likely to arrive this Record Store Day (April 20).

An interview with NYU Local [via Rolling Stone] had the percussionist slipping in the LP's ETA while detailing the team-up, inspired by Costello's appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, where the Roots serve as talk show host Fallon's backup band.

"After Elvis Costello's third appearance, we liked him so much we were like, 'Hey why don't we make a record?'" Questlove said. "What went from being one song to be released on Record Store Day became 'Why don't we try four songs?' Now we have a brilliant album."

It had previously been reported that 20 songs had been recorded with producer Steven Mandel (K'naan, Erykah Badu, Common), but the tracklisting will be whittled down to 12 to 14 tunes. While it's still unclear which record label will issue the LP, Questlove seems super excited about the release.

"In the whole history of the Roots, I have never bragged on an album first, but I actually love this record," he said.

The Roots, meanwhile, also have an album of their own called & Then You Shoot Your Cousin that they hope to have out in 2013 or 2014.
