The Roots Begin Work on 'Undun'

Long-running, forward-thinking hip-hop icons the Roots have revealed that they have begun work on their next album, Undun. Late last night (July 26), drummer extraordinaire and band mouthpiece Questlove took to his Twitter account to dish some details on the just-begun recording process.

"Day 1 of @TheRoots 13th album: #Undun. Lord please help me not squander my gifts & put my best foot forward," he wrote in the post, which also included an overhead shot of the drum kit he'll likely be bangin' on in the studio.

Questo also posted a short video clip from inside the studio that features a snippet of a rather smooth-sounding song.

As previously reported, Questlove hinted at the upcoming set being their "first full-fledged narrative concept album," featuring "orchestral chamber music, with harder beats in it."

While chances are we'll have to wait until sometime later this year to hear some proper previews to see how their plans panned out, it must be noted that Questlove is a man of his word. He teased earlier that the album would feature a "one-word title that's spelled incorrectly," and Undun is setting off our spellchecker right now.

The album is said to come out either late this year or very early in 2012.
