For Pink Floyd's celebrated rock opera The Wall, Roger Waters wrote highlight "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" in protest of oppressive schooling and "thought control." So it should come as no surprise that he refused a request from Facebook to use the song in a forthcoming Instagram advertisement.

Waters shared news of the request during an appearance at a pro-Julian Assange event, Rolling Stone reports, explaining, "It arrived this morning, with an offer for a huge, huge amount of money. And the answer is, 'Fuck You. No fuckin' way.'"

Waters continued: "I only mention that because this is an insidious movement of them to take over absolutely everything. I will not be a party to this bullshit, [Mark] Zuckerberg."
Waters went on to read a letter he says came from Facebook, in which the social media giant thanks him for his consideration, adding, "We feel that the core sentiment of this song is still so prevalent and so necessary today, which speaks to how timeless the work is."

Waters said, "And yet, they want to use it to make Facebook and Instagram more powerful than it already is, so that it can continue to censor all of us in this room and prevent this story about Julian Assange getting out into the general public so the general public can go, 'What? No. No More.'"

Waters continued to dump on Zuckerberg in bringing up Facebook predecessor FaceMash, a website that allowed visitors to compare two female students' pictures side by side and let them vote who was more attractive.

"How did this little prick who started out as 'She's pretty, we'll give her a four out of five, she's ugly, we'll give her a four out of five,' how did we give him any power?" Waters asked. "And yet here he is, one of the most powerful idiots in the world."

Waters recently revealed details for a reissue of Pink Floyd's Animals, along with plans to write his memoirs. He also rescheduled a North American tour for 2022 and signed a letter in support of Palestine.
