Roger Daltrey Announces Canada/U.S. Leg on 'Tommy' Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 12, 2011

A couple of weeks ago, we learned that the Who's frontman Roger Daltrey would be taking classic album Tommy on the road, but that he would be leaving guitarist Pete Townshend at home. This was especially significant given that Townshend wrote the bulk of the songs on the album. Now, Daltry has announced that he will be bringing the tour to our side of the Pacific, booking a North American outing with a number of dates in Canada.

Following a UK jaunt this summer, Daltrey will be launching this latest leg in the U.S. in September. He will make his way to up into Canada close to the end of the month, playing in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor, ON. Following some more American shows, he will return to our country at the tail end of October, performing five shows in Western Canada.

If you're keeping track, that's a total of nine Canuck shows. A announcement on the Who's website notes that the shows will offer "striking visuals," along with a number of classic non-Tommy tracks.

If you were concerned about what Townshend thinks about Daltrey taking his brainchild on tour then you needn't worry. Townshend said, "Great to see Roger performing Tommy with his band in 2011. I will be there in spirit and Roger has my complete and most loving support." Pete's younger brother Simon will be in Daltrey's band. See the schedule below.
