River & Sky Reveals Mysterious Plans for 2021 Return

"It doesn't have to look the same in order to feel the same"

Back in May, Field, ON's music and camping festival River & Sky hinted at a possible return this year with a couple of cryptic "save the dates" posts. Now, event organizers have revealed some of their plans to return — while keeping tight-lipped about some of the other juicier details.

If one thing is made clear from the festival's most recent update, River & Sky 2021 is going to look a hell of a lot different than years past. "It doesn't have to look the same in order to feel the same," organizers wrote in a release.

Specifically, though, we do know the fest is planning for "possibly some sort of event" from July 16 to 17, its first-ever batch of online panels from July 14 to 15, plus a series of workshops in Sudbury from July 10 to 13. Scheduling and ticket information regarding all of the above is still forthcoming.

"We have some magic in the works and some high hopes, but until we know more from the provincial and municipal governments... That's all I can say about it! Make sure to check our socials in late June and respond to our event on Facebook to get updates," executive director Abigail Cassio said of the "possible" event.

"The folks working in live music have suffered tremendously this past year — they've essentially lost their livelihoods," Cassio added. "We want to give them an opportunity to get their voices heard, get them paid, and hopefully inform and engage with the new generation of artists that are coming up with the disadvantages of the pandemic."

While the inaugural panellist lineup has yet to be revealed, River & Sky has released the titles of some of its July talks. These include "Future of Live Music & Touring," "Amplifying BIPOC Voices in the Industry," "Getting to Know the Ontario Festival Circuit" and "Woman/Non-Binary Audio Experts."

Organizers also revealed that we're due for a bigger announcement on June 21. As to what that will entail, only time will tell.

While we wait to hear more about the mysterious plans River & Sky has for its 13th year, see the festival's teaser imagery below.
