Rich Samis of the Men Creates Media Frenzy with Craigslist Ad for Human-Sized Hamster Wheel

Are you in the market for a human-sized hamster wheel? Then we're sorry to report that a Brooklyn Craiglist ad for just that has turned out to be a hoax. But here's the (other) weird part: it turns out the Men's drummer Rich Samis is behind the listing.

According to a report by Impose [via Pitchfork], the comedic post was created by Samis' friend Ryan Vazquez, who listed the free giant-sized hamster wheel along with Samis' phone number as a prank. Rather than be annoyed at his friend, Samis decided to play along, and when various media outlets requested interviews about the listing, he answered their questions under the name "Sandra Z. Zzz."

The story has subsequently popped up in publications like Time, The Huffington Post, New York Daily News and Gothamist, with Samis — or should we say Sandra Z. Zzz — giving New York Magazine answers like "Usually, I put on the RHCP album Freaky Styley and run till it's over. I try to maintain a strict regimen of 4 sessions a day — twice before breakfast and twice after dinner."

In case you were wondering, neither Vazquez nor Samis own a human-sized hamster wheel, since the image was lifted from a years-old story. See the source video below.

As of press time, the all-caps Craigslist ad is still up. It reads, "FREE HUMAN SIZED HAMSTER WHEEL AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE PICK UP. CAN ACCOMODATE UP TO 200 LBS. FULLY FUNCTIONAL. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR HOUSES WITH SMALL CHILDREN OR ANIMALS. 50 LBS OF SHREDDED NEWSPAPER ALSO AVAILABLE."

The Men released their acoustic Campfire Songs EP this week through Sacred Bones.
