BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 15, 2010

R.E.M. recently wrapped up recording their 15th studio LP with returning producer Jacknife Lee, and even news that Michael Stipe will be writing restaurant reviews for Gwyneth Paltrow's GOOP newsletter can't spoil our excitement. Now, the legendary rockers have whetted our appetites even more by announcing the title of the new LP: Collapse into Now.

This news comes via a tweet by BBC 6 Music. The station's Elizabeth Alker spoke with R.EM. manager Bertis Downs, who revealed the title.

That's currently all the information we have, but it's nice to finally get some concrete details about the much-anticipated LP. The tracklist and release date are still up in the air, but R.E.M. previously said, "All signs are pointing towards a spring 2011 release."

For a tiny taste of what the band have been up to in the studio, click in the embedded video below to watch them recording handclaps and strange, unearthly noises. And to tide yourself over until that spring release, be sure to check out R.E.M.'s upcoming live DVD, due out later this month.
