Relapse Records Announces 25th Anniversary Plans for 2015

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 20, 2014

Since the early '90s, American metal imprint Relapse Records has issued boatfuls of head-banging classics, with Neurosis, Mastodon, Today Is the Day, Pig Destroyer, Coliseum, High on Fire and Dillinger Escape Plan being just a few of the beloved acts to have been backed by the label. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the Pennsylvania company, and it has plans to toast a series of albums both old and new with special releases.

Though details have yet to be delivered in full, a press release notes that the label will issue deluxe vinyl reissues throughout 2015, with many of the proposed platters appearing on wax after years of being out of print, and some making it to vinyl for the very first time. It's hinted that silver anniversary editions will include albums by Mastodon, Neurosis, Nile, Dillinger Escape Plan, Amorphis, Incantation, Human Remains and more.

Additionally, each new Relapse release delivered in 2015 will be issued in a limited-edition pressing on silver vinyl, which will be sold exclusively through Relapse's online store.

"In 1990 I started Relapse as a teenager in my parents' basement. It was a dream with a simple mission: to share the music that I was so passionate about with as many people as possible," founder Matt Jacobson said in a statement. "Over the course of 25 years we have had the honour of working with a diverse array of amazing artists and releasing a vast catalogue of incredible records that includes numerous influential and genre defining albums. We are very proud that we have been able to bring the music that we love to a global audience."

Outside of the pressing plant, Relapse also revealed that this year's Maryland Death Fest will play host to the label's 25th anniversary celebration. Past and present acts from the roster set to appear between May 21 and 24 include Amorphis, Obituary, Neurosis, Suffocation, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Cephalic Carnage, Primitive Man, YOB, Tombs, Devourment, Origin, Skinless, Inverloch, Inter Arma, Serpentine Path, and Noisea. You'll find out more about the fest here.
