Rational Youth Unearth Rare Recordings for Archival Three-CD Set, Reunite for Live Shows

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 17, 2013

Rational Youth haven't been around since the mid-'80s, but the Canadian new wave act have dug into the vaults and found some previously unheard material. Their three-CD Live 1983 + Magic Box collection will be out on November 5 through Artoffact Records.

The set brings together complete show recordings from 1983 gigs in Winnipeg and Ottawa. The shows include songs that were never recorded in the studio and are previously unreleased. These recordings initially circulated in bootleg form in the '80s. The audio has since been cleaned up and remastered.

One of the band members found these live recordings, plus "other rare demos, out-takes, and remixes," in his basement. All told, there's more than three hours of rare material spread across these CDs.

To promote Live 1983 + Magic Box, Rational Youth have reformed as a five-piece and are planning shows in Toronto, Montreal, Sweden, Norway and Germany. Most of the dates have yet to be announced, but you can see some of the details for their confirmed 2014 gigs in Sweden below.
