Erik Lindmark, founding guitarist/vocalist of California technical/brutal death metal band Deeds of Flesh and CEO/founder of Unique Leader Records, has passed away following a battle with sclerosis. He was 46.

His passing was confirmed via a Facebook posting by the label he founded in 1997. It included a note that Lindmark insisted the staff continue the label after his death, which they plan to after a brief break in January 2019.

Unique Leader Records specialized in brutal and/or technical death metal, releasing albums by Decrepit Birth, DevourmentPsycroptic, Spawn of Possession, SoreptionHour of Penance, Gorod, Fallujah, Aeon, Rings of Saturn, Disgorge, Gorgasm, Severed Savior and many more. This year saw releases from Ingested, Alterbeast, Obliterate and Pyrexia, amongst others.

Deeds of Flesh formed in 1993 and helped push their style of metal forward on their eight full-lengths and one EP, all of which Lindmark played on. Their latest was 2013's Portals to Canaan, and the band were working on a new LP, with an August 2017 Facebook post saying they only needed to finish vocals and effects to complete the album and a subsequent post from that October saying they were getting back to work on the vocals.

Beyond his band and label families, Lindmark left behind a wife and daughter. There's a GoFundMe set up for them, which you can find here.
