Two years on from delivering The Agent Intellect, Detroit post-punks Protomartyr have announced their signing to Domino ahead of their fourth full-length. The band's latest effort, Relatives in Descent, will arrive through label September 29.

Relatives in Descent is said to present "twelve variations on a theme: the unknowable nature of truth, and the existential dread that often accompanies that unknowing." The record was recorded in Los Angeles with Sonny DiPerri (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors), who also served as co-producer.

"I used to think that truth was something that existed, that there were certain shared truths, like beauty," vocalist Joe Casey said of the record's subject matter. "Now that's being eroded. People have never been more skeptical, and there's no shared reality. Maybe there never was."

The announcement comes alongside a video for opener "A Private Understanding." The clip was inspired by a trip Casey took to Ireland, where he found himself in a pub watching a man sing a traditional folksong to patrons who show varying degrees of interest.
