Back in 2011, Prince decided to hold off on recording any new material due to online piracy. Evidently he's now had a change of heart, since the Purple One reportedly has a new album finished.
A statement from Prince's Paisley Park camp [via Dr. Funkenberry] reveals that he has a new album on the way. It's tentatively titled Plectrum Electrum, and while we currently don't have any more information than that, it appears to be finished, since it was recently mixed.
The new song "FIXURLIFEUP" premiered on CBC Radio this morning (April 12), and it's currently streaming on Ernest Radio Network [via Consequence of Sound]. This brash rock cut features Prince's backing band 3rdEyeGirl and follows in the vein of his raw recent work with the group.
Prince will reportedly be sharing more new music from the album this Sunday (April 14) at the Portside Pub in Vancouver, where he will make an appearance at an official launch party for his North American residency tour, while 3rdEyeGirl will perform (without Prince, mind you).
