Portishead's Geoff Barrow Re-teams with Ben Salisbury for 'Ex-Machina' Score

While Portishead claimed earlier this year that they're clearing their schedules to make a long-awaited fourth LP, the band's Geoff Barrow is still working on the side doing film scores. Up next from the artist will be a tag-team venture with composer Ben Salisbury for sci-fi flick Ex-Machina.

Film Music Reporter notes that the pair are attached to the UK production, which is being directed by Alex Garland (28 Days Later, Sunshine). Actors appearing in the film include Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander. Ex-Machina is expected to hit the film festival circuit in the fall, with a wider release planned in 2015.

Salisbury and Barrow had previously worked together on a score intended for 2012's Dredd, for which Garland wrote the screenplay. The work didn't end up making it into the film, but was later repurposed and released as Drokk: Music Inspired By Mega-City One, an off-brand salute to the 2000 AD comic series from which Judge Dredd came. You can sample a bit of the "purposefully stark and spare," synth-driven score down below.
