Pirate/Rock

"Bootleg"

The Click Hear crew will be taking a break for the next two weeks, but you shouldn't let that stop you from swinging by this spot to (re)discover some of our favourite tracks from the past year. There's no real rhyme or reason behind these picks; they're just the songs that have helped to soundtrack the last 12 months for us. Enjoy and have a happy holidays.

I can't really tell you much about Pirate/Rock, other than they've been hiding right under my nose in Toronto and they're playing a gig tonight at Rancho Relaxo supporting Mark "BBQ" Sultan. But what little there is on their MySpace page was enough to knock me out. Two dudes named Josh and Joe, they play scuffed up, brooding lo-fi that's a bit like Blank Dogs, if Mike Sniper upped the production quality one notch, got more aggro and laid off the wonky tone-bending. They released a handmade EP last year called Desert Boots but only made 20 copies of it. Yeah, 20! ARRRR!!! Talk about a collector's item, matey! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

It should be noted that Josh (pictured above on the left) has kept himself quite busy this year as the mastermind behind Little Girls, putting Pirate/Rock on the backburner for the time being.
