Dance music compilation series Fabriclive has been on a roll that last little bit, lining up volumes curated by experimental electronic wizard Four Tet and Ed Banger alum Brodinski, and now we have another set coming our way helmed by UK dubstep deliverer Pinch.
Fabriclive 61, which drops January 16 in the UK, features 22 tracks mixed by the Bristol-based musician, and was primarily spun together using his hefty vinyl collection. A press statement from Pinch explains that while some could be content cueing up transitions with their computers, he prefers to mix it old school.
"I am a supporter of the sound of vinyl and the cultural associations I make with this format so it was important to me -- even if I do ultimately end up abandoning my beloved format one day -- to stick by my guns and record the mix like this," he said. "I also made the whole mix start and finish in the same spot -- meaning that the entire DJ mix can work as a loop if you put it on repeat. I really like the idea of certain kinds of music existing in its own infinite context and setting up the mix to loop like that was playing entirely into that idea."
Pinch's own tunes, including collabs with Shackleton, Loefah and Photek, are peppered into the mix, but other artists included are fellow Bristolians like Jakes, Roly Porter, now Berlin-based Emika and the reggae act Henry & Louis.
Described as a blend of "melodic mood-pieces, driving dub-techno and the odd mid-range bass wobble," the mix is said to further demonstrate what Pinch can do behind the decks. Check the tracklist below and the cover above.
