Pharmakon Offshoot Cheena Announce Debut LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 8, 2016

When Margaret Chardiet isn't conjuring up deathbed howls and industrial damage through her noise-spiked Pharmakon project, she's jamming out in New York garage combo Cheena. Following some earlier EP and 7-inch releases, the quintet have now announced plans to put out their first-ever full-length, Spend the Night With....

A press release notes that the 11-song release is due August 5 through Sacred Bones. It's further explained that the project was formed in 2014 over the quintet's mutual love for "NYC early glam and West Coast country punk." Chardiet has scrapped bone-chilling sonics in favour of toting a guitar in Cheena, which also includes vocalist Walker Behl, bassist Keegan Dakkar, slide-equipped guitarist Logan Montana, and drummer Eugene Terry.

Spend the Night With... is described as a "soundtrack to nights where revelry and lust are never isolated from poor decisions and vanity," with sonic touchstones including the Gun Club, Iggy Pop, Hawkwind, the Sex Pistols and more. The release follows their 2014 All the Money That Cheena Can Buy cassette, and last year's three-song 7-inch on Sacred Bones.
