Peter Gordon and His Love of Life Orchestra Get Retrospective on DFA

Earlier this year, DFA Records announced that it was preparing two releases from seminal New York composer Peter Gordon. The label kicked off the campaign with the Another Heartbreak twelve-inch, which featured previously unreleased mixes of some classic Gordon tracks. Now the label will follow that up with a full-length compilation of his work this fall.

The collection is simply called Love of Life Orchestra, named after the group that Gordon fronted in the late '70s and early '80s. Made up of singles spanning Gordon's career, the comp includes guest spots from Arthur Russell, Rebecca Armstrong and the New York Doll's David Johansen.

According to a press release, the record "serves as ample testimony to the far-reaching scope of Gordon's musical sensibilities and a reminder of his enduring musical legacy." Strangely enough, however, the compilation skips Love of Life Orchestra's much-overlooked sole LP, Geneva, entirely.

DFA will release Love of Life Orchestra on October 12. Short clips of each track can be heard here.

Love of Life Orchestra:

1. "Beginning of the Heartbreak / Don't Don't"

5. "Still You"
6. "Beautiful Dreamer"
7. "Iago's Escape"
