Perfect Pussy Team Up with Joanna Gruesome for Split 7-inch and Comic Book

BY Alex HudsonPublished Aug 19, 2014

Perfect Pussy turned heads with this year's debut album, Say Yes to Love, and now the punky group have announced a split 7-inch with similarly noisy UK combo Joanna Gruesome. It will be out this fall via Captured Tracks/Slumberland/Fortuna Pop.

The split comes with two songs from each band, plus a 24-page comic by cartoonist Phil McAndrew, who is the brother of Perfect Pussy guitarist Ray McAndrew. A press release notes, "The heroine in McAndrew's comic is a 'split' between Joanna Gruesome front woman Alanna McArdle and Meredith Graves of Perfect Pussy, who battles misogynists, online trolls and haters everywhere."

Both sides of the split contain one original tune and one cover. Perfect Pussy have penned a song called "Adult World (The Secret)" and cover "Leash Called Love" by Björk's old band the Sugarcubes. These were recorded at Montreal's Hotel2Tango with Howard Billerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade).

Joanna Gruesome, meanwhile, penned "Psykick Espionage" and covered I Hate Myself's "...And Keep Reaching for Those Stars." They were recored with Matt Johnson at Suburban Home Studios.

Below, hear Perfect Pussy's take on "Leash Called Love" and Joanna Gruesome's "Psykick Espionage."
