Secret City Records has been a staple of the Canadian indie music industry for a decade now, and to mark its milestone 10th anniversary, the label will release a brand new compilation featuring some of its finest homegrown talent.
Sporting more than 30 songs, the tracklisting includes contributions from Patrick Watson (whose Close to Paradise marked the inaugural release for the Montreal-based label back in September 2006), Plants and Animals, Basia Bulat, Owen Pallett, the Barr Brothers, Suuns, Diamond Rings and more. The songs have been compiled chronologically across a two-CD set that will arrive on September 23.
A limited-edition vinyl box set will also be announced in the coming months, but fans who purchase the initial double-disc release will also receive a poster and five bonus tracks.
In addition to releasing the compilation, Secret City will also be celebrating with a series of live events set to take place this fall. Basia Bulat and Leif Vollebekk will ring in the anniversary in London, UK, on September 6; Jesse Mac Cormack will headline a Pop Montreal-affiliated show in the label's hometown on September 22; Emilie & Ogden, Mac Cormack and a to-be-announced special guest will perform in Paris on October 12; and the celebrations will wrap up in Reykjavik with yet another show from Mac Cormack on a date that is still to be confirmed.
"Over the years, we've worked tirelessly to build a worldwide infrastructure that supports not only our artists' needs but also our own vision — to be a significant global label and brand," founder and president Justin West said in a statement. "We're really proud of what we've accomplished in 10 years time and are just as excited about where we're headed."
