"I just really think the storytelling in it is evocative and beautiful. It's also equal parts witty and whimsical, but also heartbreaking"

Orville Peck has thrown his rainbow-emblazoned cowboy hat in the Pride Month ring with a cover of Elton John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters."

His version of the 1972 track from John's Honky Chateau comes as a part of Amazon Music's ongoing Pride Month celebrations, with the corporation's original PROUD playlist including contributions from the likes of Kim Petras, Rina Sawayama and more.

Peck's rendition swaps out John's classic piano melodies for his own signature twang, adding acoustic guitar strums and harmonic rhythms.

"I chose this song because it was always one of my favourites when I was younger," the masked masc said in a statement. "I just really think the storytelling in it is evocative and beautiful. It's also equal parts witty and whimsical, but also heartbreaking. I love the combination of those two things."

The cover marks Peck's first outing since the April release of his sophomore album, Bronco.
