An armed assailant opened fire during a death metal show at the Marquis Lounge in San Bernardino, CA, on Saturday (April 23), leaving one person dead and four injured.

The attack took place at around 9:50 p.m. PT, when Los Angeles-based band Crawling Through Tartarus were reportedly onstage. The victim pronounced dead at the scene was later identified as 32-year-old James Vincent Dickson [via CBS News].

The band's vocalist Matt Holzboog was among the wounded, reportedly hit by two rounds of gunfire. He was transported to an area hospital along with three other victims, where he immediately underwent surgery on his leg. All injured parties were in stable condition as of Monday (April 25), according to San Bernardino police.

"Prayers for my boys in Crawling Through Tartarus after a violent shooting during their set last night in San Bernardino," an apparent friend of the group wrote in a Facebook post. "Zander Dixon was a brother to Jack Berg and me growing up and it's terrifying to see the video of somebody opening fire. Their vocalist Matt was hit by two rounds and is dealing with surgeries now. Make sure you send lots of love their way. Share their music with your friends, buy some merch, wish them well, etc."

Crawling Through Tartarus offered further updates yesterday (April 26) via their Instagram story, writing: "[Holzboog] had his second surgery this morning that lasted three hours, and it went really well. There was talk about needing a third surgery in the future."

They added: "The doctor [said] how fast everyone reacted to help Matthew made a huge difference on him not losing his leg Saturday night."

The shooting remains under investigation, with no suspect or motive having been identified.
