Toronto hardcore punk promoter Not Dead Yet has teamed up with England-based independent record label Static Shock Records for the first-ever Flowers in Concrete event. Taking place on July 12 at Toronto's Great Hall, the event will feature 14 hardcore and punk bands from across Canada and beyond.
Set times will be staggered, with bands hitting the stages at both the Great Hall and Longboat Hall. Taking the stage upstairs will be headliners Dillinger Four, as well as Dark Thoughts, Bootlicker, the Hell, Peace Talks, Calamity and Hogtied. Downstairs' Longboat Hall will feature Home Front headlining, plus Slash Need, Abism, Melissa, Faze, Sivahkal and Constrictor.
On naming Flowers in Concrete after the Heresy track off Face Up to It!, NDY shared in a newsletter this morning (May 20), "We were looking for something that represented the connection between hardcore punk in Toronto, and hardcore punk in England. A connection that was surprisingly thin in terms of useful names." They continued, "But, HERESY's Face Up to It is an interesting connection. Anyone who's ever looked for used punk records in the past 30 years in Toronto has certainly seen this LP kicking around the bin, because it had a DIY Canadian press on 'Still Thinking.' One of only two international presses."
Tickets for the event are now available here, with the option of individual tickets per stage or a pass for both. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Palestine Action Legal Defense Fund.
