Noel Gallagher Claims His Cat Could Write a Better Song Than Harry Styles

BY Sarah MurphyPublished May 31, 2017

Former Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher has taken a break from sparring with his younger brother to hurl some insults at One Direction boybandmate-turned-solo-star Harry Styles.

Speaking to Absolute Radio [via NME], Gallagher berated the songwriting team that worked with Styles on his recent solo debut.

"People of my age have let themselves go, they're fat, balding idiots with fading tattoos," Gallagher said. "They sit in their garage and write shite like 'Sign of the Times' for Harry Styles. Which, quite frankly, my cat could have written in about 10 minutes!"

Not even Gallagher's wife could convince him of the song's greatness. "My wife was falling over herself, 'Have you heard Harry Styles' new song? It's like Prince,'" he recalled. "I was like, 'Without even hearing it, I can assure you it's not like Prince!'"

Completely unsurprisingly, the singer's brother Liam has taken a totally opposite stance on the young star's music, praising his attempt to break out of the boyband cycle.

"I don't mind it, man," Liam recently told NME. "There's some interesting bits in it. I mean, I don't know how it fucking goes, but fair play to him. I'm sure, like, it's a bigger fucking cost. I've got the weight of Oasis still hanging over me and I'm sure I'll always be that guy from Oasis, so I'm sure he's carrying an equal weight. If he wants to get out of that pop world and into something with a bit more substance I think that's a good thing."

Although Noel was absent from his little brother's solo show last night (May 30), NME is reporting rumours that the pair may rekindle their musical relationship for an Oasis reunion at Ariana Grande's upcoming benefit concert in Manchester. That concert will take place on June 4, with proceeds going to the victims and families affected by last week's horrific terrorist attack.

In terms of Noel's own continuing solo career, he has just announced plans for a new LP that is expected to arrive this fall.
