Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden Replace Death Grips on Tour with Oneohtrix Point Never, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cold Cave

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 14, 2014

Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden were recently left without an opener for their summer tour when controversial rap aggressors Death Grips went ahead and broke up ahead of the trip. Now, just a few days before the trek gets underway, it's been announced that electronic artist Oneohtrix Point Never, tech-metal crew Dillinger Escape Plan and dark wavers Cold Cave will split the opening duties throughout the summer.

NIN frontman Trent Reznor broke the news today (July 14) over Twitter, where he wrote, "New and old friends joining us this summer," and shared the newly reconfigured tour poster above.

Following the headliners' appearance at the Pemberton Music Festival in BC on Friday (July 18), the three acts will team up for a series of dates, with Oneohtrix Point Never serving as the opener for the Toronto stop on July 27. You'll find all of the updated tour info down below.

A statement from OPN's Daniel Lopatin explains that in addition to being thrilled to open for Nine Inch Nails, he'll be using his opening slot to preview new material. Apparently, these latest works are reminiscent of the ambient tracks from the early part of his career.

"Sharing the stage with [Nine Inch Nails] means a great deal to me, and I'm honoured to be replacing Death Grips on this tour," he said. "The last amphitheatre tour I did was with Sigur Rós, in which audiences had no idea whether or not I was performing because I was behind a giant sheet. I'm happy to say that the setup is going to incredible on this run. Thus, I'm attempting to write 30 minutes of customized hard rock cyberdrone specifically for this tour. I am grateful to Trent Reznor and his production team for all their help."

Dillinger Escape Plan and Cold Cave didn't issue statements on the tour adds, but both confirmed their schedules with Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails on their Facebook pages.
