Nico Muhly Turning Online Murder Plot into His First Opera

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 15, 2010

When he's not collaborating with Sigur Rós front-man Jónsi or dissing Owen Pallett, New York-based composer Nico Muhly stays busy with a plethora of projects. After recent work with Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Björk and numerous others, you'd think the virtuoso was getting tired. That's simply not the case, and he's recently revealed his most ambitious project yet.

TwentyFourBit points to an article on TheaterMania that describes Muhly's first-ever stab at an opera, dubbed Two Boys. Better yet, its plot is loosely based on the real-life story of a 14-year-old boy posing as different women in online chat rooms, with the intention of luring men in to murder them. Violence at the opera? That's unheard of!

Two Boys is slated to open in London next year and run at the Met Museum in New York in 2013. It's being directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher.
