Nick Cave to Write New Bad Seeds Record in 2011

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Nov 22, 2010

Though Nick Cave's fall months have been spent on the road with oddball outfit Grinderman, the singer insists he hasn't put the Bad Seeds on permanent vacation. While the singer has been promoting Grinderman's aptly named sophomore set, Grinderman 2, he has revealed that he will return to his beloved Seeds sometime next year.

"There will be a new Bad Seeds record next year," Cave recently told Spinner. "I haven't written anything yet, but that's not how I go about things anyway. I have the starting date for the next record and that's when I go into the office and start it. I'm not doing that until I've finished the Grinderman tour, which is amazing. The band is something else."

It seems bouncing around has made for some healthy competition between the two groups, though all of Grinderman actually play in the Bad Seeds. Even so, just as Grinderman's raucous 2007 debut influenced the juiced-up funk of the Seeds' 2008 platter, Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!, coming off this latest grind could influence Cave's other muse.

"It has the ability to reinvigorate the Bad Seeds or destroy the Bad Seeds," the singer said of his current stint with Grinderman. "I think it's put a spark of life back into the relationship."

Whatever the results, we're keeping our ears piqued for some more Cave songs.

As it stands, you can still check out Grinderman on the road this month, including a Vancouver stop this Friday (November 26). With any luck, they will still be sporting those centurion costumes.
