Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

"Avalanche" (Leonard Cohen cover) ('Black Sails' trailer)

Bad Seeds fans have been loving Nick Cave's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Avalanche" quite fiercely for 30 years now, but they haven't quite heard it as it's being presented in the upcoming season of Treasure Island-indebted drama Black Sails. Instead of using the corroded crawl heard on 1984's From Her to Eternity, producers have got Cave to re-record a rather achingly beautiful second redo.

A montage from Season 2, which starts January 24 on Starz, displays the various characters sailing high seas, lighting cannons, taking part in burials and gazing longingly out of windows. Sonically, Cave delivers Cohen's lines about love, yearning, conquering pain and more above lightly tapped piano keys and Warren Ellis' haunting, tearful string bowing.

Bare, but not grotesque, you can catch the snippet of the updated cover version, via EW, down below.
