Next Music from TOKYO Details 2015 Canadian Tour

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 20, 2015

Every year, Next Music from TOKYO tours the country to showcase some of Japan's finest musical exports. The upcoming showcase will be its seventh edition, and the details of the tour have now been confirmed.

The event's Vol. 7 will be hitting Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver in June, and the bill includes ethereal electro-acoustic combo mothercoat, energetic psych rockers OWARIKARA, hardcore emo popsters PENs+, jarring art-rockers Otori, and self-described "math-pop" act Atlantic Airport. Check out music from all of the bands at the bottom of this page.

A press release explains, "Next Music from TOKYO prides itself in showcasing a fresh and eclectic lineup of Japanese bands that put on a great show without resorting to gimmicks. Although this year's lineup is predominantly rock-based none of the bands sound remotely alike and are bound to fascinate audiences that keep an open mind."

It's curated by Steven Tanaka, a Toronto super-fan who travels to Japan multiple times a year to scout the bands.

The are five shows in total: two in Toronto followed by single nights in Montreal and Vancouver, and then a Tokyo gig in July. See the schedule below.
