New Pornographers Get Emmy Nom for "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk" Video

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 14, 2011

Canadian power pop collective the New Pornographers have been celebrated in many ways for their infectious tunes, but the band are now being honoured for their activist work as well.

Last fall, the troupe teamed up with Oxfam and director Shannon Hart Reed to produce a video for "Sweet Talk, Sweet Talk" (see below), which featured a host of devastating images of oil-ravaged coastlines following the BP oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico. The clip creatively wove images of destruction with luscious animations to accompany the band's giddy number.

Well, it definitely made an impression on some higher-ups: the band have just been nominated for an Emmy in the Societal Concerns category, Matador has announced.

In other band news, the Pornos have a seven-inch lined up for Record Store Day (April 16). The lil' platter will feature "Moves" from 2010's Together on the A-side, while an unreleased track called "Drug Deal of the Heart" is featured on the flip. As an added bonus, the product will be packaged with a download of the two tunes, as well as the video for "Moves."

If that weren't enough, the band are currently on tour. Check out the dates, none of them Canadian, mind you, below.
