Neko Case Records Sparks Cover, Signs Exclusively To Anti For Next Album

While details are scarce on Neko Case’s follow-up to 2006’s Fox Confessor Brings the Flood, we do know that she is currently recording it. We also know the alt-country songstress is doing a cover of Sparks’ Propaganda track "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth” for her upcoming album. Or at least that’s what sources close to Case have recently told Exclaim!

This wouldn’t mark the first time she has had a go at a track by the Brothers Mael. The New Pornographers were once known to cover the Sparks song "Throw Her Away and Get a New One” from 1976’s Big Beat, but it seems that it was Case that was the Sparks fans, not Carl Newman.

Another titbit of information that was recently leaked corncerning Case’s new album is that she has left her long-time Vancouver label Mint Records and signed exclusively with Anti-. In a recent interview with the Georgia Straight, Mint label head Bill Baker said: "She wasn’t contractually obligated to do anything with us after [The Tigers Have Spoken], but she actually offered us Fox Confessor for Canada, kind of as a thank-you gesture for all the hard work. We obviously said we would like to keep working with her and made what we thought was a compelling pitch. But five records in 12 years? That’s a pretty decent body of work. It sounds so corny, but we wish her all the success in the world.”

As far as Neko Case tour news go, she will be performing at Vancouver’s two-day Stanley Park Singing Exhibition on August 31 and presumably September 1 as well with the New Pornographers. Here is the festival’s full line-up:
