Neko Case

"Danny's Song" (Loggins and Messina cover)

While HBO show Vinyl seemingly hasn't been a hit with the critics, the '70s record exec period piece has been full of familiar, chart-smashing sounds. Following Julian Casablancas' Velvet Underground cover, Neko Case has now unveiled her take on the Kenny Loggins-penned "Danny's Song."

Originally recorded by Loggins and Messina in 1971, the song became a hit for Canadian snowbird Anne Murray in 1972. Case interprets the piece quite faithfully, placing her honeyed pipes above the intro's folky, finger-picked guitar melodies. Later, a pedal steel and some percussion enter the arrangement.

The song appears on this week's episode of Vinyl, as well as this week's Vinyl: Music from the HBO Original Series - Volume 1.3 digital release, which also features covers sung by Andrew W.K., fun.'s Nate Ruess and Milk Carton Kids.

Even if you ain't got money to pick up the soundtrack, you can stream the song below.
