Neil Young has been vocal about his discomfort with playing live in the midst of an ongoing pandemic — while many artists have returned to touring life in the last two years, Young hasn't been on stage since 2019.

It doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon either, as Young has reaffirmed his aversion to performing live in a new fan letter response.

Responding to a 21-year-old newly-minted fan named Tyler who was hoping to see Young perform at this year's Farm Aid, Young responded: "I will not be at Farmaid this year. I am not ready for that yet. I don't think it is very safe in the pandemic. I miss it very much."

Farm Aid 2022 is set to take place on September 24, and Young's name was included in the list of performers. That was also the case with last year's Farm Aid, but he dropped out of last year's edition a month after the lineup was announced, again citing pandemic safety.
