Nas's undisputed classic Illmatic was given a proper 20th anniversary reissue earlier this month, but the celebration doesn't stop there. Toronto producer Theo3 has put a twist on the set's "Life's a Bitch," and added a northern touch by bringing Saukrates on the cut.
The spit-shine has Theo3 lacing his boom-bap approach with a nocturnal jazz piano loop, letting a truncated version of Nas's god flow summarize his wellspring of rhymes. AZ's words are dialled-down in the mix, mostly existing on the hook, while Saukrates' recent addition has him washing away stress in the bath and reminiscing about friends and family lost via the circle of life.
