Nada Surf Take On Arthur Russell, Depeche Mode and the Go-Betweens on New Covers Record, Announce Massive Spring Tour

Ready to reclaim some of the popularity they stored away back in the late '90s, alt-rockers Nada Surf have announced the upcoming release of their latest album, the palindromically titled If I Had a Hi Fi. Don't expect anything you haven't heard before though, as the LP is a collection of covers that will pay homage to the likes of Depeche Mode, Kate Bush and the now-defunct Spanish pop band Mecromina.

Inspired not by any singular genre, the songs on the record, which also include selections from the Go-Betweens, Arthur Russell, the Soft Pack and Bill Fox, were chosen based on one simple criteria: whatever the band wanted to play.

In a press release, lead singer Matthew Caws said of the seemingly haphazard grouping of songs on the album, "[We focused on] whatever we felt like covering in the moment, rather than trying to sum up our influences or something. It's whatever we were excited about in the months before making it. And I think we got everything we wanted to."

In support of If I Had a Hi Fi, the band will embark on a tour of North America and Europe this spring, stopping in Toronto and Montreal in late March. The album will be available exclusively at tour dates, but for now the band are streaming a demo version of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy The Silence" on their website. If we're lucky, a proper physical/digital release may follow the tour.
