Once again, My Bloody Valentine mastermind Kevin Shields is teasing us by talking about the endlessly delayed follow-up to the band's 1991 masterpiece Loveless. This time, if the songwriter is to be believed, the release is finally imminent.
Speaking with NME, Shields said that the album will be out digitally before the end of the year. Given that we're well into November, that means that it will supposedly drop within the next eight weeks. Even better, this full-length will reportedly be followed by a subsequent EP.
Shields said, "I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who've heard stuff — some engineers, the band, and that's about it — some people think it's stranger than Loveless. I don't. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it's 100 percent necessary."
Of course, we should take any promise of new material with a grain of salt. Almost exactly five years ago, on November 8, 2007, reports surfaced that Shields would deliver the new album before the end of the year. That, of course, didn't end up happening.
Previous reports have indicated that the bulk of the album was recorded in the '90s, not too long after Loveless was released. For now, it's back to playing the waiting game.
