Halifax's Mosaic Festival is set to return this year for its third annual edition, both in-person and through livestream broadcast — making 2020's event the first to become available nationwide.
Following strict distancing and safety precautions, Mosaic organizers will bring a mixture of art, music, culture and food to Halifax's waterfront on September 19 — less than a month away. Festivities begin at 9 a.m. AT and run until 8 p.m. AT. In-person attendees will be provided with free masks and all on-site festivities will take place at a calculated distance.
Singer-songwriter Reeny Smith, Irish dance group Diaga, Ukrainian singer Iryna Gerus, the West African dance group Wontanara Drum & Dance and many more are set to perform at this year's event. Anyone from around the country can tune in to the event by keeping an eye on Mosaic's social media and website. There, you can also keep watch for upcoming lineup announcements.
"We are excited that we are able to still host the Mosaic Festival of Arts and culture this year," festival founder Ifeanyi Emesih said in a statement. "In spite of everything going on in the world, we want to continue spreading the message of culture, diversity and inclusion and we are happy to do this while obeying all the health and safety rules."
In addition to the September event, Mosaic has also opened up submissions for its annual film festival. That event is scheduled to take place on November 13. More details and submission information be found at the 2020 Mosaic Film Festival of Arts and Culture website.
