Morbid Angel Sign to Season of Mist, Prep Album for 2010 Release

We know what you're thinking: "Gee, it's been a long time since I've heard anything from death metal originators Morbid Angel."

You're right. Their last album, Heretic, was issued way back in 2003. Since then, vocalist/bassist David Vincent has presumably been busy taking care of his other endeavor, the Genitorturers. That's the band where he justifies sporting Robert Smith hair and nail polish to the diehard blackened death metal brigade. His wife is the singer too.

Well, then again, you can't blame Morbid Angel for not putting anything out. They didn't have a record deal anymore after opting not to work with former long-time label Earache Records, which has released all of their previous music.

Thankfully, long-time major independent label Season of Mist has just announced it has inked a deal with the band, which will find the imprint releasing the act's material internationally, barring Japan. Morbid Angel's ninth album has yet to be titled or given an official date, yet Season of Mist has confirmed that it will be issued next year.

"I am truly looking forward to our new relationship with Season of Mist," says Vincent in a statement. "[Label founder] Michael Berberian has a lot of artistic vision and is a real music fan. This has been a long process to get to this point and in my opinion, it was worth the wait!"

Guitarist Trey Azagthoth adds: "I'm really stoked to be working now with SOM!!!! The French have always shown me they much more value art over Fabricated Flatlined Hype and it's this artistic minded value that will open so many new doors for extreme music as a whole. Mind Makes Meaning, why not own the process."
